In the 28th of January, after beating Marta Przezdziecka in tie-break, the woman grandmaster Jolanta Zawadzka has won Polish Woman's Champion title.
But we should start from the very beginning... Jola's older siblings - Magda and Stas had been training chess. Since she was very young she was participating with whole family in chess tournaments and as a consequence she started to play by herself. Every one of them has started a chess training thank to coach Krzysztof Krupa. Chess club - MDK Srodmiescie was teaching chess in Jola's primary school, but they didn't have many attendance due to the fact that coach wasn't able to attract children's' attention. Mr Krupa had appeared in 1992 and those trainings has gained much bigger attention. In that year Magda and Stas began theirs chess training, Jola joined them one year later. First years of chess training was rather an entertainment. None of young chess student even thought of becoming a serious chess player. The first success was Stas qualification to Polish Championship under 10 years old. It was the time, when parents decided to employ an individual chess coach - the most important one was Krzysztof Krupa, but he had a help from Tomasz Motyl and Monika Aksiuczyc. At the beginning the cooperation didn't go well. It even happened that Mr Krupa wanted to resign from coaching Jola, saying there is no chance for her to be a chess player. Fortunately it was only a threat and as the result proved it wrong he was forced to change his point of view. In april 1994 she had her first success - she gained a 5th chess category. One month later she took part in her first great chess event - polish kindergarden championships, unfortunatly without any achivements. Next to this she played in a large open tournament in Jaroslawiec at Baltic Sea. During next three years she took part in many chess tournaments in Poland and Wroclaw without achiving any notifiable results. In this day in local area she was only third chess player at her age In 1997, as she was 10 she qualified for the first time to polish youth championships. Unexpectedly for everyone she won that competition. As a price she was included into a polish team to European Championship in Tallinn, Estland and to World Championship in cannes, France. In her debut, in Tallinn she played pretty well, she even had a chance to score a medal. After a week start, when she lost her first two games, she won six games in a row and before the last round she was at the third position. In the last round she was playing against leading player from Georgia, Nana Dzagnidze. After first 10 minutes Jola stoped playing and sterted weeping. It appeared that her opponent was much older then she should be, and as a consequence she should play in other age category. Our complains didn't achive anything and Jola had to continue. After that incidence she wasn't capable of playing and so he lost. Eventually she gained 8th place. Her apperance at World Championships in Cannes was showing her actual skills - she was 20th. Her next polish championship Jola had while 12, in tournament in Wisla. On that event first two places came to Wroclaw. Second was Dominika Hermanowicz, with who Jola won decisive game. Shortly after the championships coach Krzysztof Krupa resined. In June parents offered a job to known russian coach - Mikhail Kislov,. He accepted, even though he prefers not warking with girls. Their, lasting 6 years, ork was a tough thing. Coach was known of his proesional behaviour and attitude, also had a was putting a big pressure on good health and stamina. First two years of their cooperation didn't bring any spectacolous achievements. Despite her rating gains sha wasn't able to gain any medal at polish championships. The breakout started in second half of 2001. At the begining she one the price for the best women together with WIM norm at Polanica Zdroj tournament, then she was 4th on european championships and 6th on world championships. On both competition the only thing that lacked was luck. Year 2002 was the continuation of her result bringing a big income in rating. Her top achivement was silver medal at european championship in Peniscola (Spain). The winner then was Marie Sebag, with whom Jola would play few times more. At world championship Jola lost medal with Bucholtz and was finaly 5th. She finished this year with impressing 2335 rating. Next year has also begun well. She won polish championship U18 and gained her first WGM norm at Frydek-Mistek tournament. Then the crisis came - during a half of year of enormous efforts with training she lost over 100 ELO. Some has told that Jola should not continue working with coach Kislov. Jola was also fed up with hard work, but managed to continue one year longer.
Year 2004 was most succesful year of her carrier, with plenty of good results in Poland and abroad. In the beggining she scored another U18 championship with a great style - she klinched it two rounds before the end. Despite this effort she wasn't allowed to play in woman championships. Jola also scored second place in Open Rapid Czech Championships and then gained her second WGM norm at the tournament that took place... in her high school. It was also that year when, during World Championship in Halkidiki the greek club of Kavalia invited Jola to join their club at Team Championships. Jole decided to play there and together with her team she gained a title of vice-champion. Her greatest achievement were World Championships at Heraklion, Kreete. After a dramatic fight she was a champion U18. This result also gave her her last WGM norm. Due to the fact that she was then rated 2363 the World Chess Federation gave her WGM title. It was officialy commited in 28th of February 2005. The beggining of 2005 was the continuation of her good form. She won U20 championship in very convincing kind of way - receiving a gold medal exactly at her 18th birthday.Aeroflot tournament in Moskov, one of the most famous in the world, allowed her to present herself in senior enviroment and prooved that she's able to fight with each player. After a one year break she took part in Woman Championship in Suwalki, where she gained bronze medal. Thanks to this she was qualified to the Polish Squad and was said to play in European Team Championships. This event appears to be one the most succesfull achievement of polish chess players - a team consisting of Iweta Radziewicz, Monika Socko, Jola, Joanna Dworakowska and Marta Zielinska has fought a gold medal and a title of European Champions. Jola has her great part in this achievement - she was playing on 3rd board and as the only one in whole team didn't lose any game and made a rating performance over 2500. In her last presence at World Championship in Belford, France she was only 5th. It was caused by losing the one-before-last game with Joanna Majdan. This Championships was the last tournament with coach Kislov. She didn't have enough luck also in World Championships U20 - she scored only 0.5 out of last two rounds and was 17th. Woman Championhips in Trzebinia was the first tournament she participated without any coach. With third rating she was one of the favourite. She took the lead after the second round and though she had some weaker rusults she was capable of keeping the lead.till the end.So consequently, after 14 years of playing chess, twelve years after gaining 5th kategory Jola became the best polish chess player. Now it's the time to conquer the world....
